4th-Sep-2008 11:37 pm - McCain Speech

Happened to have notepad open when it started...

Here's what I jotted down )

Overall it was a strong speech. Not strong enough to get my vote, though. He delivered it well and had a really strong section in the middle where he talked about what he wants to do. Don't agree with his approach to education and there's too much "us vs. them / good vs. evil" in the rhetoric for me to really believe his administration will be a change from the past. Way too much war touting, though, and I'm done with all POW references for the rest of the election.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I am resurfacing from coming out of last semester (my *last* semester) and returning to the "real world". The first part of my MFA thesis is done (hooray!) and it went spectacularly. If I could have the same experience with every class that I teach that I had this last semester I will be the happiest person *ever*. :)

A Recap of My Victorious Thesis )

HOLIDAYS
Since then I've been enjoying my birthday (12/21), the holidays (where we took a nice trip to California to visit Mark's family - and alas were not able to visit with ABL or other peninsula friends), and the new year where some friends from Boston came down and did Bright Night and brunch on New Year's day with us.

AN APARTMENT IN THE MALL PARKING LOT
One of the highlights of New Year's Eve was stumbling into this art exhibit about the apartment eight artists secretly built in the garage of the Providence Place mall. ProJo Article About It

Lots to share from just the past few weeks:

thesis update )

visiting my brother at Fort Knox )

my new job )

our new car )

my show )

So with all that I have a big week ahead of me and it looks like the traffic in Boston will continue to be bad as the Red Sox head into the World Series.

Oh yeah, and the weather has been really beautiful here all fall (more like California than Rhode Island). It can't last long, but it's been nice while it has lasted.

Hope all is well with you!

3rd-Oct-2007 01:59 pm - Beach Impeach
smiley
An SF Theatre friend passed on information about a really interesting peace action happening in Berkeley this weekend. For any in the area who are interested...check it out...

--------------------

For the past year and a half, Brad Newsham has been organizing these events in which literally thousands of people lie down on the beach in the shape of the word “Impeach.”

Each event has drawn more attention, and they’re now receiving lots of national media coverage. Beach Impeach 4 is planned for this coming Sunday, October 7, at the Berkeley Marina at 11 a.m. They have three confirmed special guests – Cindy Sheehan, Cynthia McKinney, and Michelle Shocked - and Brad is really hoping for a crowd of 1500.

Check out his website for photos and details: http://www.beachimpeach.org/

With the lighter load of thesis (yes...that is antithetical) I have been able to be cooking more. Here's a tasty soup I just made (literally...it's cooling downstairs as I write this) in case anyone is looking for a quick, easy new recipe:
